Are You Decorating A Family Room?
Are you decorating your home's family room? If so, you must be excited about getting to select new furniture and the accent pieces that will go with it. If you already know exactly the look you want, go for it. However, maybe you are still looking for ideas on how to decorate the area. If that's the case, read on for some ideas that might help you.
Do Some Homework Before You Shop
Have you already been looking at house decorating magazines? If not, consider buying two or three of them to get ideas for your family room. Consider having scissors handy so that you can cut out pictures of furniture settings you like. Doing so will more than likely be a big help when you actually go shopping.
For instance, in one magazine you might find an actual furniture setting that you know will be perfect for your family room. Does the magazine include who the manufacturer of that furniture is? If so, call stores ahead of time to see if they carry that particular brand of furniture. Or, you can take the picture to the furniture store and show it to the salesperson who greets you.
He or she will more than likely be able to tell you if the store carries those exact pieces of furniture. If the store doesn't carry the exact furniture you want, it might be that the furniture could be ordered and delivered right to your own home.
Select Additional Accent Pieces
Once you establish exactly which furniture you want to purchase for your family room, the next step will be giving the room added pizzazz with the accent pieces you select.
For example, perhaps you chose a sofa and occasional chairs that are a set. Consider selecting unique furniture pieces that will serve as a coffee table and as end tables. A gorgeous piece of wood with a heavy glass top might be a great coffee table for a contemporary furniture setting. Another idea is to use solid wooden cubes as end tables. If the furniture stores you visit don't carry that type of furniture, are you comfortable making the wooden cubes yourself?
Select other accent pieces that will add personality to your family room. For example, if you have established a contemporary room, then modern art paintings would probably be perfect for the family room. If you have gone with a rustic setting, consider artwork that can go in rustic frames.
