Finding Furniture You Will Love

Are You Decorating Your Family Room In An Eclectic Way?

When you shop for clothing, do you find yourself drawn to extremely unique outfits? Maybe you select things like batik broomstick skirts and funky shoes to go with them. Maybe you have been teased about being born in the wrong generation, as you love the hippie style of the 1960s. Now that you are going to decorate your family room, your basic personality might lend itself to decorating in an eclectic way.

If that's the case, you will more than likely have nothing but fun in selecting things like furniture and the accent pieces that will be part of your family room. Here are some ideas that might help you.

Furniture Stores - Consider starting off with basic styles for your furniture. For example, go with a leather sofa and occasional chairs with fabric that will complement the upholstery on the sofa you select. After you have chosen the sofa and the occasional chairs, start adding one-of-a-kind furniture pieces that will help to establish the eclectic look you desire.

For example, instead of a regular coffee table, consider buying an antique travel chest that can be used as your coffee table. Look for things like small game tables that can be used as end tables. Besides shopping in regular furniture stores, check out resale shops and yard sales where you might find things like one-of-a-kind rocking chairs or footstools.

A heavy front door might be turned into something like a sofa table. Think of checking out unfinished furniture stores, too. For example, you might find a great floor to ceiling shelf that you can paint in a shabby chic design.

Accent Pieces - If you went with a basic style for your sofa and occasional chairs, now you can make them unique with things like paisley throw pillows. Maybe a Mexican reboso, or shawl casually tossed across the back of the sofa or one of the chairs will add just one more unique touch to the room.

Have you traveled to foreign countries? If so, consider displaying your souvenirs on the floor to ceiling shelf you painted in the shabby chic style. If you haven't traveled to places outside of the United States, think of going to world market stores where you can buy decorative items from places like India, Africa, and Mexico. Even things like unique placemats can be turned into throw pillows. Or, consider framing the placemats. Remember, with eclectic decorating, anything goes, right?
