Furnishing Your Very First Apartment: The Must Buy Pieces
When it comes time to furnish your first apartment, the task may seem overwhelming at first. When faced with a large empty space that needs to be filled with furniture, you might not know where to start. In some cases, people might even turn to second hand furniture that friends or family might give them. This is because it can be expensive to get your first apartment, and it's even more expensive to have to go out and spend money on a whole bunch of brand new furniture. However, there are some pieces of furniture that you really should not get second hand and should instead choose to buy from a living room furniture store. This list will cover items that are best purchased brand new.
A Soft Sofa For Your Living room
While it is perfectly fine to buy second hand coffee tables, TV stands, and many other types of hardwood pieces of living room furniture, you really need to head to a store to buy your soft sofa. This is because of the risk of bedbugs and mold that comes with used soft sofas. You do not want to make the mistake of buying a cheap second hand sofa that has been infested with bedbugs, fleas, or is rotten with mold in the cushions. You might end up with a costly problem that cancels out any of the savings that you believe that you have made. So, with that in mind, make sure that you head to a place that specializes in living room furniture. When you are there, speak to the salesperson and make sure that you discuss the warranty on the sofa as well as discuss some of the important aspects such as how to wash the cushions and if the fabric has been treated with an anti-stain treatment.
A Bed and Mattress for your Bedroom
It should go without saying that you always want to buy your bed brand new, unless you happen to be moving your current bed into the new place. However, if you are going to buy a bed, never opt for a second hand mattress or soft style headboard. Both of these can hold bedbugs and create havoc in your new apartment. It is fine to get a wooden or metal bed frame, but it is best to avoid the offer of a second hand mattress or to buy one from a thrift store.
