Finding Furniture You Will Love

Are You Giving the Front of Your Home a New Look?

Have you been thinking of making changes to the front of your house? Perhaps you like the general design of your house, but you feel like the front needs to have a facelift. If so, from selecting a front door made of reclaimed wood to adding new landscaping, here are some ideas that might help you.

The Front Door

Is your front door downright boring to look at? If so, you might have been thinking that you would select a front door made of reclaimed wood. Talk about drama! A reclaimed wood door would certainly add interest to the front of your house.

You might end up buying a wooden front door that is created from the foundation of an old railroad train. Or, the wood might have even been in an old church or in a bus depot. No matter where the wood came from, it probably has a history to it. Try to find out what that history is, just because it will be a conversation starter.

Another idea is to buy an unfinished wooden door and give it the look you want yourself. For example, maybe you want brick red or blue for the color of your front door. Even if you're not a professional painter, it more than likely will not be a hard job to paint the door yourself.

Think of the hardware you'll select for the wooden door. For example, shiny brass may add a touch of elegance to the door. Pewter might be a good choice if you want a casual look.

New Landscaping

Changing your landscape design is just as important as your new front door. For example, maybe at the present time you just have grass and a couple of trees that were already in the front yard when you bought it. Consider adding interest and beauty to the front of your house by creating flower beds that will hold plants of different types.

Another idea is to make a hardscape part of your front yard landscaping. Cement, bricks, or flagstone would all be affordable choices for the foundation of your hardscape, and they would all look attractive. Consider adding things like statuary to the hardscape. For example, a statue of St. Francis of Assisi with small animal statues surrounding it would be one good choice. Or, statues of children at play might add a bit of whimsy to your front yard hardscape.
